Instead of evenly lighting the paper lantern so that it glows, this LED is like a flashlight just pointing straight through the bottom of the lantern, lighting up the ground underneath it. It's not very bright either. And when the lantern moves, the light swings around inside of it and looks like a tiny trapped UFO or something. It kinda looks like the movement of water reflected off the surface of rippling water... which is actually kinda pretty, but not what I was looking for. I'm also realizing that I should have bought something that I can turn off without reaching into the lantern to find a tiny switch. Is it supposed to just be left on for it's entire 20-hour life expectancy? Sadly, it's annoying. However, I do like that it comes in different colors. It would probably be better for small paper lanterns (Mine is 14 inches).
