NOVICA, in association with National Geographic, offers thousands of limited edition and one-of-a-kind gifts, jewelry, and home decor treasures handmade by master artists and artisans throughout the world. Dan Quaynor designs a mesmerizing wall candleholder intended to illume the Gye Nyame Adinkra symbol. Spiritual in origin, the ancient Ashanti symbol suggests, "Fear no one but God." Quaynor crafts this piece by using recycled materials including iron for the main frame, and glass for the crystalline accents. Artisan Info: "My name is Daniel Quaynor and I was born in 1963 in the Brong-Ahafo region of Ghana. I attended local schools and high school, but moved to the capital city Accra to study Mechanical Engineering at the Polytechnic. Later, in 1993, I graduated with a diploma in Rural Art and Industry, from the University of Science and Technology in Kumasi. I am married and have a son. "While working as a field coordinator for various international organizations, I became interested in helping artisans find a market for products they made from available rural natural resources. Soon I realized that I truly enjoyed designing products and I began to create a wide variety of products based on my own designs. "I pursued my interests and my products have been well-accepted, to the point that now there are 10 people doing on-the-job training with me in my workshop."
